Spam and Virus Filtering for Email Hosting Clients
June 24, 2004 - We continue to focus on ways to reduce the volume of spam and unwanted email received by our Email Hosting clients. Two examples of techniques we use include:
- Server-level Filtering of Blacklisted Spammers. All email messages that arrive at our mail server are checked against a database of known spammers also known as a 'spammer blacklist'. If an email originated from a source that is on the spammers blacklist it is not delivered and a 'bounce message' is returned to the source. The blacklist database we subscribe to is maintained by SpamCop.net, a division of IronPort Systems, Inc.
- Account-level Filtering of Attachments. We also offer an optional attachment filtering service to help protect against unwanted viruses and worms attached to email messages. With Automatic Attachment Filtering, our mail server will automatically delete incoming email that has an attachment with an extension commonly associated with viruses. To request Automatic Attachment Filtering Service we ask clients to fill out a form and return it to us via fax, email or postal mail. The form is available as a PDF document in the Support Section of our Web site. Click here to download the form.
